The Industry Medal is the highest honor bestowed by MOTIE upon individuals or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional dedication and made significant contributions to the development of the Korean manufacturing industry. Shim's leadership and commitment to excellence in the development and commercialization of precision grinding machines have played a pivotal role in enhancing the competitiveness of Korean manufacturing on the global stage.

In addition to his pioneering work in precision engineering, Shim has been lauded for his unwavering dedication to promoting domestic manufacturing and fostering innovation within the industry. His visionary leadership has not only propelled our company, but also contributed to the overall growth and prosperity of the Korean manufacturing sector.

Managing Director, Shim

Mr. Shim Jho-whon, the managing director, embarked on his entrepreneurial journey leveraging his experience from the largest bearing company in South Korea 30 years ago. Initially, the focus was on repairing machinery and spindles of renowned international brands. Then, he pioneered the development and sale of high-speed, high-frequency spindles ranging from 10,000 rpm to 120,000 rpm.

Building on spindle development expertise and in-house spindle manufacturing experience, he ventured into producing Grinding Machines tailored for Tapered Roller Bearings. Over a decade, he expanded product line to include Grinding Machines for various precision components such as Hydro-Dynamic and Hydro-Static spindles, Built-in Air spindles, Thread/Screw Grinding Machine, Simultaneous Inner and Outer Diameter Grinding Machine, Multi-axis Centerless Grinding Machine, and those for Deep Groove Ball Bearings.

Back then, the Korean machine tool industry faced challenges due to dominance by international brands, which often overshadowed Korean technological prowess and quality. However, he competed with renowned international brands by continuously developing machine mechanisms and core units while maintaining competitive pricing. This approach allowed him to establish a foothold in the Turkish market in 2010 and expand presence globally, supplying grinding machine equipment and spindles to diverse companies worldwide.

Moreover, he has successfully completed numerous government-funded research and development projects and industry-academia collaborations, and secured multiple patents.

심조원 사장님은 30년 전 국내 최대 베어링 회사에서의 경험을 바탕으로 사업을 시작했습니다. 초기에는 해외 유명 브랜드의 기계와 스핀들 수리를 주로 하였으며, 10,000 rpm에서부터 120,000 rpm까지의 고속 고주파 스핀들을 개발하여 판매하였습니다.

이후에는 스핀들 개발 노하우와 제조 경험을 기반으로 테이퍼롤러(Tapered Roller Bearing)전용 연삭기계를 개발하였고, 10년 동안 유동압 스핀들과 빌트인타입의 에어스핀들, 그리고 볼베어링(Deep Groove Ball Bearing) 전용 연삭기계, 나사연삭기 (Thread/Screw Grinding Machine), 내외경 동시 연삭기 (Simultaneous Inner and Outer Diameter Grinding Machine), 다축센터리스연삭기 (Multi-axis Centerless Grinding Machine) 등 다양한 정밀 부품 (샤프트, CV조인트 등) 공정에 필요한 연삭기계 라인을 개발하였습니다.

30년 전, 한국의 공작기계 산업은 해외 유명 브랜드의 과점으로 인해 기술력과 품질에서 인정을 받지 못하는 상황이었습니다. 그러나 해외 유명 브랜드와 경쟁하면서도 연삭기계의 핵심 유니트와 메카니즘을 지속적으로 개발하여 기술력을 확보하였습니다. 이를 바탕으로 2010년부터 튀르키예 시장에 진출하여 다양한 국가의 기업들에게 다양한 연삭기계 장비와 스핀들을 납품하고 있습니다.

Throughout the 30 years of running the business, there have been numerous challenging situations, both big and small. However, by developing various core technologies, Shim has gained recognition for Korea's technical capabilities, making manufacturing processes in global factories more efficient and allowing access to more advanced technologies. In 2022, ORSKOREA was honored to receive the Top Exporter Award for achieving $5 million in exports.

Moreover, we are focusing more on research and development to develop new products such as semiconductor grinding equipment and medical spindles. Additionally, we are enhancing existing equipment such as mineral casting and linear motion hydro-static/dynamic slide to improve precision and accuracy.

사업을 30년동안 하시면서 크고 작은 힘든 상황도 많았지만, 한국의 기술력을 인정받고 세계 공장의 제조 공정이 조금 더 효율적이고, 조금 더 최신 기술을 접할 수 있도록 다양한 핵심 기술들을 개발하며, 2022년에는 500만불 수출의 탑을 수상하기도 했습니다.

뿐만 아니라 반도체 연삭장비와 더불어 의료용 스핀들과 같이 새로운 제품들을 개발하고 기존 장비들을 정밀도와 정확도를 높이는 기술을 더할 수 있도록 더욱 더 R&D에 집중을 하고 있습니다.

Shim upholds the core value of "Shared success is meaningful success" and practices the belief that "everyone can grow and succeed" by going beyond the conventional mindset of "people do not change."

Building on a tradition of leadership, guidance, and integrity established over 20 years, he fosters an environment where employees are empowered to learn and excel. Implementing various welfare policies that fuel the passion for learning among employees, he personally led interior design work to ensure a pleasant working environment when establishing a joint venture overseas with ORS Bearing in 2019.

Furthermore, we base our decisions on the needs of our customers rather than focusing solely on competitors, and we endeavor to cultivate a culture focused on problem-solving.
